Fr. Tom

Our Parochial Vicar ...

REV. THOMAS (TOM) SNODGRASS

In 1977, after serving about a year as associate pastor at Holy Angels in Dayton, I received a phone call from the Priests’ Personnel Director.   He informed me Archbishop Bernardin planned to appoint me to the Tribunal Office and to St. Cecilia Parish in Oakley.  I left Cincinnati in 1981 for advanced studies and received a degree in canon law from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.  I returned to the Tribunal in 1983 while ministering sacramentally in a variety of parishes: Christ the King in Mt. Lookout, St. Louis(Downtown), and St. Mary’s in Hyde Park.

In 1993 another call from the Priests’ Personnel Director led to my first pastorate, a double-header: St. Charles Borromeo in Carthage and St. Aloysius in Elmwood Place while spending one day a week in the Tribunal Office.

From there in 1998 I moved to the pastorate of St. Bartholomew. In 2000 I was transferred to St. Peter in Chains Cathedral.  Along the way, about six years ago, I was transferred from the Tribunal to the Chancery where I will continue as assistant chancellor while serving parishioners of Assumption and St. Margaret Mary Parishes.

My coming to Assumption is indeed a homecoming.  For those who don’t know me, I was welcomed by my parents, Ralph and Colette, and big brother, Joe on August 2, 1949.  We lived at1234 Chase Avenue in Northside.  Remembering my house number for Kindergarten was pretty easy.   My family moved to Madeleine Circle in the Glencoe Subdivision on August 13, 1955.  Two days later, on the Feast of the Assumption, my sister, Mary was born.  Soon thereafter my brother, Joe and I were registered at Assumption.  Sister Mary Laura, C.D.P. was my teacher that first year.  A couple of years later my sister, Ginny joined Joe and me at Assumption.  Eventually, all four of us were studying hard at Assumption School.  I made my First Communion in 1957 in the old church and was confirmed in the new church in 1958

Sr Rose Ann Menke

Director of Religious Education ...

SR. ROSE ANN MENKE, CDP

At this time in her journey as a Sister of Divine Providence, Sister Rose Ann Menke, CDP   is delighted to return to her home parish of Assumption Church to assume the position of part-time DRE.  Sister brings to this ministry her teaching and administrative skills, a rich background in the Catholic Faith, and a deep trust in Providence.   In 2009 Sister Rose Ann took a mini sabbatical from her ministry work to enable her to have the time to deepen her Faith, participate in an Adult Spirituality Institute, and join in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.  This latter experience was a special time for Sister Rose Ann because her stay in Israel not only brought the scriptures to life for her but it deepened her understanding and appreciation of biblical history.

Sister has been involved in varied ministries: team member of congregational leadership in the American Providence, administrator of the CDP Jeanne d’Arc Residence for women (12 years) in New York, DRE/Pastoral Associate in a small rural parish (5 years) in Winchester, KY, and teacher in elementary and secondary schools for several years.

She lives in community with other Sisters of Divine Providence in Covington, KY.   The proximity of the sisters’ residence to the El Centro de la Divina Providencia, a new educational ministry of the Sisters of Divine Providence, has enabled her to be involved in helping Hispanic adults and immigrants learn how to communicate in English and thus become more viable members of society.

Sister Rose received a M.A. in Religious Studies, Athenaeum, Ohio; M.Ed from Xavier University; and a BA in Business Administration from Thomas More (Villa Madonna) College, Crestview Hills, KY
